Maggot Stew Halloween Recipe

A simple addition to any stew makes this frightfully fun meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup orzo pasta for every 6 servings of stew
  • water if needed

Preparation:

Cook orzo pasta according to package directions. When your favorite stew is ready, stir in the pasta just before turning off the heat. It really looks like maggots invaded your stew.
As far as what types of stews work best, the darker beef type stews show off the ‘maggots’ nicely. Chunky tomato soups work well too, if you are looking for a vegetarian alternative.
You will want to be sure you cook the orzo fully, so it doesn’t soak up your stew and make it dry. This is also why you don’t want to add the cooked pasta until it is ready to serve. Make just enough for the meal, it doesn’t keep for leftovers because of this as well.
