These skull earrings are simple to make with the right supplies, which come in bulk. That makes this a great craft for groups of teen girls or to make as a swap or gifts for your teen’s friends. They can also be made as a Halloween or punk rock birthday party favor.
You’ll need:
- Heavy duty gripping glue(E6000 or Gorilla Glue)
- Rubber skull rings(Comes in a pack of Halloween rings in dollar stores.)
- Glitter glue or stickles
- Post backs and nuts(craft stores carry these in their beading aisle.)
Directions:
Start by snipping off the ring part of the skulls.
Using your glitter glue, place a dab in each of the eyes. I used the green glowing color, but red looks spooky too. Allow the glitter glue to dry before proceeding.
One of the problems you can face with this project is the glue. You have to have the stronger glue so that the posts won’t peal off of the rubber. Roughing up the back of the rubber skulls and using the largest possible amount of glue will also help this from happening.
Place a large dab of glue on the back of the skulls, then insert the posts so that the glue comes up around the edges a bit – not too much. Allow them to dry fully.
The skulls can be made to look a number of different ways. In this picture I have dabbed them on a metallic stamp pad. You could use other colors, like black or red.
Enjoy your skull earrings!
