Teen Project: Fringed Pocket Purse Made with Jeans

Pocket purse made with the back pocket of a recycled pair of blue jeans. Fringed and beaded for a trendy look.

You’ll need:

  • Recycled blue jeans
  • 33 Pony beads
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread

Cut out the back pocket of the blue jeans, cutting down the leg for about 8 inches and leaving a half-inch lip in the sides and top.

Fringe the sides and the bottom of the blue jeans as shown in the picture.

Cut out the seamed side of your blue jeans. Fringe both sides of the seam. Be careful not to cut through the seam. Attach the strap to the back of the pocket purse by sewing it down with a needle and thread.

Using large hole beads like the pony beads shown, bead each fringe with three beads. Tie off each end with an overhand knot.

You could change this purse by:

  • Beading a strap with pony beads instead of using the blue jean seam.
  • Leave the fringe plain and unbeaded.
  • Use paint pens to personalize it with the teen’s name.
