Spirals are standards in much of today’s wire working jewelry. Here is how to make a spiral clasp out of wire. These clasps are used in pieces where you want the clasp to look as good as the piece.
You’ll need these supplies:
- 5-inches 20 gauge wire or thicker
You’ll need these tools:
- wire cutters; flush cutters
- Round nose pliers
- Bent nose or chain nose pliers
Directions for this Tutorial:
1.) Create your spiral stop when you have 2 inches left of your wire. Grab your wire with your round nose pliers as shown in the picture.
2.) Push wire over the hump on one rung of the pliers and continue around the spiral until it is just past half way, see picture.
3.) Make your clasp hook.
4.) Trim the end if needed and round up the end with your round nose pliers. Use a plastic or rubber hammer to work harden the clasp more.
5.) If you choose to hammer the clasp, the shaded areas are my recommendations for flattened areas.
