You do not need a coiler to make jumprings. They really aren’t hard to do, just takes a little time.
You’ll need these supplies:
- wire
You’ll need these tools:
- knitting needle
- Bent nose or chain nose pliers
- flush cutter
- file
Directions for this Tutorial:
1.) Cut a piece of wire about 6″ long or longer. Bend the middle around the knitting needle.
2.) While holding the one end of the wire near the bend flush against the knitting needle, grasp the other end of the wire and make half turns around the knitting needle being careful to coil the wire closely together. Complete both sides.
3.) Slide the coil off the knitting needle and use flush cutters to cut off jumprings. You do not wnat jumprings with points on the ends, they will not hold anything. Turn your flush cutters and trim off the pointed end on your coil. Then you are ready to cut another jumpring. If your cutters are leaving burrs on your jumprings, file them.
4.) To work harden your jumprings, grasp one side with a pair of pliers. Grasp the other side with another pair of pliers and bend slightly towards you then away from you. Do this 3 or 4 times while gently guiding the jumpring closed.
