The Jelly Roll Race has been around awhile, but that doesn’t take away the fun it can be to make this quilt. The race itself is a great way for a quilt guild to make fundraiser money and donation quilts. There are several tutorials on YouTube. I’ve checked most of them out for the original pattern – there are variations too – and I set two of them here for you to follow.
In order to start the race your will need lots of thread, full bobbins and of course, your chosen jelly roll. This was the first quilt I ever finished. It was so simple to put together – but there is a reason for that. I kept my quarter inch the entire time, so it laid flat when I pressed and was done. The biggest problem I have seem with this quilt type is the rushing to get the race done creates sloppy sewing. So, be mindful of that issue. You want to be able to quilt this top with as few problems as you can.
I like Jenny and I love her videos. She has many projects, so be sure to check her out.
While this is an older jelly roll video, it actually shows a race… don’t you just love it! Makes you want to grab a few quilty friends and have a go 😉
