Wooden pencil style box made into a beach box with a painted on sea, shells and sand art clay. This style wooden box is called a pencil box because it is long and thin to hold pencils, but you can hide all kinds of treasures in it.
You’ll need these supplies to make the beach box:
- Sand Art Model Clay
- Wood pencil box
- Sea shells
- Paint; light and dark blue
- Paint brushes; 1-inch foam and small detail brush
Make a line down the sides of the box lid where it fits into the groove to slide shut. You will need to avoid getting any of the sand art clay in this area.
Paint the entire outside of the box blue. Paint the top and inside of the top edge. Paint the pull on the lid. Allow it to dry.
Using a smaller paint brush, paint on the waves with a darker blue. You can make waves with paint by shaping a cursive ‘C’ in a line and then connecting them.
Check to see that your shells will fit within the lines of the box. Get an idea of where they are going before you put down the sand clay.
Mold a layer of sand clay to the top of the lid, staying inside the lines. It will stick to the lid as it dries. Push on your shells, so they mold into the clay and stick when the clay is dry. You may have to add some glue after the clay dries.
