The denim blue jean sack craft project Perfect craft that makes up quickly, teaches simple machine sewing and your teen can use it to cart their stuff around. A total win!
1.) Gather your supplies.
You’ll need:
- One pair of blue jeans to be recycled; Front of one leg minus the seams
- Silk cording; length = 8 times the width of the pant leg
- Sewing machine and thread
- Pins
- Scissors
2.) Hem the sides.
Even out the denim material so that it is a straight rectangle. Then put a 5/8ths inch hem down the two long sides.
3.) Stitch the short sides.
Pin the short sides down about an inch.
4.) Stitch the sides together.
Fold the material in half. Pin and stitch the two sides together only up to the stitching of your hem across the top.
5.) Add the cording.
Knot the silk cording to a paperclip or safety pin and push through the loop at the top of the sack.
Push the silk cording around the other side of the sack and then go all the way around a second time. When the cord comes out the same side it started after going around 2 times, knot the ends. You should be able to pull a loop on both sides of the sack. Be sure you can do this before you trim your silk cording.
6.) Variations and ideas.
You can use these sacks for just about anything from carrying your basketball court sneakers to making one for a pair of sunglasses. You can stamp or iron-on any type of school or club logo or make a some to share with friends.
