This braided cord bookmark is made with a Halloween theme. Once your teens know how to braid, it is a very simple project. Or you can make one up to go with a spooky book gift for teens.
You’ll need:
- 1 yard each of satin or similar cording: purple, black and lime green
- 1 6mm jump ring
- 1 bat or other Halloween charm
- Masking tape
Fold each cord in half at the center. Tape down the cording so that like colors are next to each other, as showing in the picture.
Begin braiding paying close attention to the braid laying flat against the surface and not letting the cords twist. After about three braids, tape the cord down so it is easier to keep it flat. Do not take the tape off the top.
Braid for 9 inches and then overhand knot all of the cords together. Do not take the tape off the top.
Take the tape off the top loops of cord being careful not to let the braid unravel. Using the jump ring, attach the Halloween charm to the three cord loops, holding them together.
Add a bit of glue to the knot to secure it and allow it to dry. Enjoy!
Variations: This type of bookmark can be made for any holiday or theme simply by changing the colors of the cord and the charm.
