Here are the directions for making a basic ear wire for jewelry making. It is a very simple wire wrap that you will only need to use your basic wire wrapping tools. If you need a lot of these at one time, you may want to use a jig. Otherwise, there is no need.
You’ll need these supplies:
- wire, 20, 21 or 22 gauge; your preference
You’ll need these tools:
- Bent nose or chain nose pliers
- round nose pliers
- flush cutter
- knitting needle, size 13
- file
Directions for this Tutorial:
1.) Make an eye loop. Then bend the wire 90 degrees toward the open end of the eye loop. (If you’re going to add a bead, add it here.)
2.) Loop the wire around the knitting needle until you get three quarters of the way there. Get the matching wire up to this point.
3.) Take both of your ear wires and trim them. Bend the ends up a small bit.(see picture above) File the ends. If the wire is still soft, tap with your hammer and anvil.
4.) Enjoy!
