Add some identity to your writing instruments with this teen craft.
You’ll need:
- Floss; 8 feet of each color, 3 to 4 different colors
- 3-4 Pony beads
- Hot glue or tacky glue
- One pen
- Sandpaper (optional)
Gather one end of your colors of floss together. Using and overhand knot (like you’re knotting your shoelace), tie your floss on to the pen, leaving a 4 inch tail to finish off with beads later. At the top of the pen, add a bit of glue. Slip your floss up over the gluey area to keep it secure. Note: if the glue is not holding your threads in place securely, you may need to scratch up the top of the pen with sandpaper first.
Using the basic friendship knot as shown, wrap the floss around the pen. Continue to do this, allowing the ridge to twirl around the pen as you wrap down. Pulling a loop on one side of the pen and using the string on the other side, tie off using an overhand knot. Double knot. Trim the ends.
Gently push up the threads, add glue around the bottom of the pen. Slide the floss back in place. On the top end of the pen, bead four pony beads to the hanging tail. Tie off the tail on the last bead as shown. Trim the end. This pen can be done in many different colors, for any occasion. It makes a wonderful gift for friends and a fun party activity and/or favor.
